Chapter 6 – Anxiety and Anger
Trapped Emotions
- Trapped emotions (TE) are negative energies that cause imbalances in our system which can lead to emotional, mental and physical pain. If left untreated they eventually lead to disease. TE can have a dramatic and adverse affect on how we think and feel as well as how we relate to others.
Why emotions become stuck?
- An emotion that was not correctly identified and then allowed to process in an appropriate manner at the time of an incident becomes stuck and held in the body as a ball of energy. This is what is referred to as a “trapped emotion.”
Suppressing Emotion
- We may be told by society or within our families the following types of things: “You shouldn’t be angry.” “You are weak if you cry.” “It is disrespectful to disagree.” All of these types of beliefs can cause us to bury our emotions deep within. We may think we have dealt with an emotion when in reality we have just repressed it. We suppress the emotion to avoid expressing the emotion
Is your heart behind a wall
- Another reason for repressing emotions is that an incident may be too painful or difficult to deal with at the time of the occurrence. The inner self goes into protection mode. We suppress to protect. Protection mode is also the reason why heart walls are created.
The most common stuck emotions
- Stress: find the underlying cause instead of catch-all of anxiety
- Disgusted: a feeling of loathing when moral sense is offended
- Grief: intense emotional suffering caused by loss
- Criticized: by others and also negative self-talk
- Unsupported: not defended when help is needed; burden is too heavy to bear alone
- Unsafe: leads to an overactive “fight, flight, or freeze” response in body
- Overwhelmed: overpowered by superior force: excessively burdened
- Worthless: without excellence of character, quality or esteem
- Helpless: a perception that there is nothing one can do to fix or improve it
- Conflicted (Internal & External): emotional conflict within the self; fight or disagree with others
The vicious triangle of negativity
- Anxiety
- Excessive, unrealistic worry and tension with little or no reason
- Self-created experience of fear that comes from focusing on the future.
- It takes us out of the present moment and makes us concerned that bad things will happen.
- Anxiety disorders persist only because the underlying factors that cause them are not properly addressed.
- Anxiety can turn into anger when left unacknowledged and unexpressed.
- Anger
- Anger is an emotional reaction to pain
- Strong feeling of annoyance and hostility
- When mind cannot digest a problem, body reacts.
- The cycle continues.
- Depression
