Assignment 4: ASSURE Model Media Project
Students will be working with a client to develop a plan for
integrating media and/or technology using the ASSURE Model to meet the
client’s instructional, informational, or motivational needs.
Discuss the client’s needs. Then, based on the basis of the
discussion and your research (teaching and learning, motivation,
communication, perception, and media production), develop and
implement your plan.
A. Process
Prepare a technology integration plan based on the ASSURE Model for
instructional design to present to the client. A minimum of 2 media
items must be designed and produced on behalf of the client. Use your
research and readings to support the objectives and the choices of
methods, media, and design.
The final product for this assignment will include a technology
integration plan and an analysis of the results of the plan. Based on
the student’s plan a choice may be made to use the student’s
design media. Types of media that the student could choose to design
or develop for the client include: print, visuals, video, audio,
multimedia, or online products. The relative importance of these
components may vary, and some may be combined.
B. Product
Each student will submit the following products:
• A technology integration plan with:
• Title page
• Abstract – summarize the client’s needs and the proposed
approach to meeting those needs. Must include a brief summary of the
issues, a proposed solution, and the ways in which the solution
addresses the needs of the client.
• Statement of Need or Purpose -Talk with your client to find out
what problem(s) he or she may need to resolve with your help, read
relevant documents, etc. take notes
ASSURE Model
• Analyze Learners –
• Talk with your client and his or her students, read relevant
documents, review test results, etc. take notes
• Identify learners -who is the target audience of this instruction
and media products?
• Audience characteristics – general demographics, specific
competencies, and learning styles
• State Objectives (Talk with your client, read relevant standards,
etc. take notes)
• These can be derived from the text, syllabus, unit, or developed
by client. For example, the objective may come from the unit you are
teaching in a public school.
• Listed in ABCD format (pg. 43, Smaldino) with conditions of
performance & degree of acceptable mastery
• General Content Objectives & Information Literacy objectives
(e.g., ISTE’s NETS-S) to be included
• Select Methods, Media, & Materials
In this step, you need to design and develop 2 Instructional
activities and relevant evaluation instruments as well.
• Choose appropriate methods, technology, & media; based on your
research or lit review with the textbook and at least 3 outside
references.
• Select from modifying existing materials or designing new
materials (Direct use of media products created by other people is not
allowed, and YOU need to be the one creating the products, NOT only
your learners; you will get direct hands-on experience if you were the
one creating it yourself.)
• Produce media products
• Utilize Media & Materials
Implementation (In this and the next Participation step, you need to
go to observe the class(es), take observation notes, collect
students’ test or survey results or grading rubrics so that you will
have the data for you to write about in the Evaluation and Revision
step)
• Plan how the 3 M’s (Methods, Media, Materials) will be used to
implement your methods; preview the methods with the client and
outline the steps for prepping the work environment and provide a list
of equipment
• Review the plan with the client and work out kinks
• Require Learner Participation Implementation
• Include activities that allow practice & feedback to allow growth
for formal assessment; implement a minimum of 2 activities (e.g.,
self- checks, CAI, Internet activities, etc.)
• Evaluate and Revise
In this step, you analyze the data you collected from evaluation
instruments (e.g., client comments, survey results) during the
implementation stage of the project, summarize your observation notes,
and test results if applicable, and provide suggestions for revision
and future use of the media and instruction
• Evaluate the impact & effectiveness of the plan and of student
learning. Outline how you intend on evaluating the plan, how do the
learners meet their objectives, how will you know if the 3 M’s
worked, etc.
• What went right? What went wrong? What modifications will be
applied?
• Reflective Summary – Write a reflective summary of your
experience (A summary is at least a page and a half). As a future
multimedia developer,
• What did you learn from this experience?
• What else did you need to know to effectively implement the
projects?
• Of what value was this experience?
• What insight have you gained about YOURSELF, as a result of this
experience?
• References – Use the textbook and at least 3 outside references.
• Appendices – Attach any necessary items, such as student
activities, evaluation forms, etc.
