Fresh Grad Lands Job as Real Estate Agent With Help from Professional Writers

What are the most important things you have learned so far in this class?

Your Answer:

I have learned a lot actually but two things are paramount. First, I learned that the European discoverers and conquerors of the New World used myths to build their legacy. I was particularly struck upon knowing that they were aided by natives and even African slaves, who in most cases even outnumbered the Europeans. Second, I have learned how Spanish Missions literally and figuratively are killing the Native Americans. Back in the days, these places served as concentration camps for the natives and at present, the propaganda of such missions is aimed at glorifying the Spaniards as givers of civilization while the natives are presented as of lower civilization. In both these learnings, I felt the urgency of correcting/decolonizing history in order to give justice to the Native Americans whose rights to self-determination and of cultural integrity have long been compromised.

 

What don’t you think you understand well enough yet?

Frankly, there is nothing that I haven’t fully understood. The readings, while voluminous, are not that hard to digest. Writing TTCs also greatly helps.

 

 What would you like to see more of between now and the end of the semester?

Your Answer:

I would like to learn the ways/approaches on how to correct/decolonize American history such that the present generation will be able to understand who really American Indians are, what civilization they have and what are their contributions to humanity. I also look forward to learning the effective ways on how American can be a place for racial diversity and equality. 

 

What do you think we could cut down on?

Your Answer:

For me, nothing. All the learning areas of this course are thus, far relevant and necessary.

 

What do you think YOU (personally) need to do between now and the end of the semester to improve your overall learning?

What I haven’t done this sem primarily because of limited time and other commitments is to compare the content knowledge taught in this class through the lectures and the readings with other primary and secondary sources. I plan to do this in one or two of the remaining weeks.
