The aim of the last one-page paper is to consolidate your focus (or foci) before the final exam. Your task is to correlate the following sets into four groupings:
FILMS: 1) Blue Velvet or Beau Travail, 2) La mujer sin cabeza or No, 3) Chungking Express or Uncle Boonmee Who Recalls His Past Lives, 4) How to Survive a Plague or Paris Is Burning;
SECONDARY SOURCES: the default option: the texts that I have assigned to the films; feel free to find and refer to other peer-reviewed journal articles;
FIELDS: a) plot structure (which is, mind you, different than a plot summary – don’t summarize plots), b) editing and/or camerawork, c) soundtrack, sound editing, and/or sound mixing, and d) costume, set design, makeup, and/or hairstyling.
So one example of such a set could be as follows:
1) Beau Travail + Cooper (2013) + sound
2) La mujer sin cabeza + Martin (2016) + editing
3) Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives + Wada Marciano (2015) + set design and costume
4) How to Survive a Plague + Crimp + plot structure (in the context of the genre: documentary)
Your task is to write four short (ca. 100-150 words) notes on each of the correlations that you will create yourselves. Remember to include APA-formatted reference list and include in-text citations to sources that you decide to reference. Depending on the quality of the content, each note will bring you 2 points. The lack of the correct APA formatting will cost you 3 points deducted from the final score.
