Nussbaum discusses how so-called “successful” educational systems rely on teaching that benefits a country’s economic growth rather than on education for human development.
As you read, and as you watch the posted videos, consider the perspectives of each of these writers on the topic of education. And think of how you would answer the question posed in the title on page 3 of Reading the World: “What Does It Mean to Be an Educated Person?”
This week’s topic focuses on the topic of education from Douglass’s writing in the 19th Century through to Nussbaum’s writing in our era.
Now that you have read the ideas of Douglass, Feynmann, and Nussbaum, and coupled with your own ideas, answer the question:
What does it mean to be an educated person?
Answer with a thoughtful response of at least complex sentences that include examples from your reading and from the videos. Also make sure that your post is grammatically correct and proofread for spelling and logical clarity.
