My personal background, characteristics, and experiences in life helped me in shaping my cultural, personal, and educational identity as well as hone several aspects of my identity. These factors and parts of my identity create two-way benefiting between me and my goals and dreams, especially with my journey in the dentist school. I grew up in Port Arthur, a small simple town mostly surrounded by oil refineries; it was a slow-paced town with limited options from choices of school to explorations. Living a struggling yet loving and compassionate life shaped me into becoming a competitive, compassionate, and motivated student; I seek to alleviate not only myself from hardships and struggles of life but also others from their own battles, just like how my community and family do it. With this, I am willing to provide the utmost necessary assistance to other students, especially those who belong to vulnerable sectors and marginalized communities. I will shape my perspective to a more cultural-based and flexible understanding of the situations, tasks, and the path I shall take in the dental school. Furthermore, my culture and heritage trained me to become a well-organized, resilient, creative, inspiring, patient, and socially interactive kind of person. Specifically, Mehndi, a practice for tattoo and art expression of our culture and traditions, taught me the importance of culture, teamwork, standing out as an inspiration towards others, and creativity. The abovementioned aspects that are part of my holistic identity shall help my colleagues and me as we enter dental school, especially teamwork. Dental school will not be easy as there will be different challenges and tasks in our journey of becoming great dentists. However, I am confident that with practicing as a team, working together, and assisting one another, we would successfully surpass those challenges and accomplish our future goals in dentistry. Both my culture and the life experiences that I have had in my life will be two of the most important aspects of my life and my identity, especially with facing the world of dental school.
