Do:
Write 2-full pages typed, double-spaced. Write in complete sentences and paragraphs. You must use standard pagination forms: (1” at TOP & BOTTOM, 1.25” margins at LEFT & RIGHT) and font size no larger than 12)
Use proper citation form when ever quoting from other sources, (eg: Chicago style etc). Film title should have year of production.
Write about the form or the look or technique of the films and how they make meanings.
Use the course readings or ideas we’ve discussed in class as tools to talk about what the film is doing. This means using terms, vocabulary, themes, and other films.
If the film is confusing try to write about what it makes you think or feel.
Make your own interpretive meanings—what it makes you think or feel.
Be comparative: compare two films or filmmakers—similarities or differences
Argue with the film(maker)
If you want to talk about why a film moved you or didn’t, try to describe the way the film is made—particularly discuss use of editing, camera work, sound, silence, voice, color, textures, rhythms.
Don’t:
Simply describe the film (We’ve seen the film)—Rather: what is film exploring, or what is its concept or theme or question
Not interested in a review of the films or program. No thumbs up or down reviewing.
