After being weighed down by student loan debt for more than thirty years, a student borrower has finally received relief from the government.

In the past,  student borrowers were previously required to meet the “undue hardship” standard.

This entailed demonstrating an inability to maintain a basic standard of living, bleak prospects for future improvement, and a genuine attempt to repay the debt.

This standard, however, was difficult to satisfy in court. 

The new guidelines have made the process more accessible to student borrowers by enabling them to submit a self-attestation form, which aids the departments in evaluating their discharge request.
